Easy way how to make a RJ45 Ethernet patch cord, Cat5e or Cat6 UTP unshielded cable, you will need the following materials and tools:
Materials:
Cat5e or Cat6 UTP unshielded cable (depending on the type of cord you want to make)
UTP RJ45 connectors
Protect boot
Tools:
Cable cutter or scissors
Wire stripper
Crimping tool
Here are the steps to follow:
1. Use a cable cutter or scissors to cut off the desired length of cable, like 0.3m, 0.5m, 1m, 1.5m, 2m…
2. Pass through the protect boots from both ends of the cable, please pay attention to the direction of the boots, from the back to the front.
3. Strip the cable jacket, use a wire stripper to strip about 1 inch (2.5 cm) of the outer jacket of the cable.
Please do not let the cutter damage the inside wires’ insulation HDPE.
4. Untwist the wires, inside the cable, you will find four twisted pairs of wires. Carefully untwist each pair and straighten out the wires.
5. Arrange the wires, arrange the wires according to the T568A or T568B wiring standard. You can use either standard as long as both ends of the cord are wired the same way.
T568A wiring standard:
Pin 1 (white/green) Pin 2 (green)
Pin 3 (white/orange) Pin 4 (blue)
Pin 5 (white/blue) Pin 6 (orange)
Pin 7 (white/brown) Pin 8 (brown)
T568B wiring standard:
Pin 1 (white/orange) Pin 2 (orange)
Pin 3 (white/green) Pin 4 (blue)
Pin 5 (white/blue) Pin 6 (green)
Pin 7 (white/brown) Pin 8 (brown)
6. Trim the wires, use a wire cutter to trim the ends of the wires so they are all even and about 0.5 inch (1.3 cm) long.
7. Insert the wires into the connector: Carefully insert the wires into the RJ45 connector in the correct order. Make sure the wires are fully inserted and in the correct pins.
8. Put the protect boot into the RJ45 connector.
9. Crimp the connector, use a crimping tool to crimp the connector onto the cable. Make sure the connector is securely attached to the cable and the wires are properly seated.
10. Repeat on the other end, repeat steps 3-9 on the other end of the cable to make a complete patch cord.
That’s it! You now have a Cat5e or Cat6 UTP unshielded RJ45 Ethernet patch cord cable.
