Direct Attach Cables (DAC) comprise passive copper cables(PCC), active copper cables (ACC), and active electrical cables (AEC). They are much cheaper than fiber optics patch cords+optical transceivers and can significantly reduce the costs of data centers. Compared to DAC, Active Optical Cables (AOC) are lighter, smaller, have lower error rates, and can transmit data over longer distances. DAC and AOC are widely used for short-distance interconnects in network cards, switches, servers, supercomputers, cloud computing, and data centers. Both types of cables offer direct and branch connections.

800G ACC/AEC

At high transmission rates, copper cable losses increase, and the interconnection length becomes inadequate, leading to the introduction of ACC and AEC. ACC adopts a Redriver chip architecture to adjust the gain of the Rx end through CTLE equalization, functioning more like an active cable by amplifying analog signals. AEC, on the other hand, utilizes a retimer chip architecture, which not only amplifies and equalizes the Tx and Rx ends but also reshapes the signal at the Rx end. ACC and AEC are also used for connecting TOR and servers. They simplify the patching process and provide a cost-effective way for short links, offering greater bandwidth transmission.

800G AOC

800G AOC is highly suitable for distributed data centers and cloud environments, as it increases bandwidth, minimizes latency, and reduces power consumption. Additionally, PAM4 DSP technology optimized on VCSEL enhances performance while lowering costs and complexity. In the market, 800G AOC point-to-point interconnect speeds can reach 800Gbps, with distances up to 100 meters, supporting a single 800Gbps interface connection between two 400G QSFP-DD modules in a branch cable configuration. This branch cable is ideal for connecting next-generation switches running at 800Gbps to existing ports running at 400Gbps without the need for additional conversion or mapping.
